What does it mean to LIVE UNITED?
We believe that Living United means joining hands to assure
that every member of our community has access to the building
blocks of a good life -- a quality education, enough income to
support a family and good health.
Living United means everyone doing what they can, investing
their time, talent and treasure in their own community.
Each year over 10,000 people in Lebanon County choose to "LIVE
UNITED" by supporting the over 30 agencies and programs
our United Way funds. We are truly proud to be among so many individuals
who are joining forces to touch the lives of the 45,000 plus people
who use a United Way funded agency each year.

How are our donations
distributed?
We have a very effective, responsible and efficient system
in place for distributing funds into our community to
address the most pressing needs.
This system has two components, our regular allocations
process, involving 8 panels of over 50 local volunteers
from all walks of life reviewing and visiting local agencies,
and our Community Impact Grant process involving
a panel of volunteers that reviews grant proposals from
any 501C3 in Lebanon County for programs that address
specified unmet needs in our community.

Creative Ways of Living United
|
The 2008/2009 campaign has officially begun and already we are
seeing the incredible support of hundreds of community members,
joining us to LIVE UNITED! Here are just some of the
many examples of innovative ways that Lebanon County is helping.
|
The Hershey Company: Who provide free printing
and all of the free candy that we give at our meetings,
display tables, outside of our offices (and which tempts
us during work hours).
Jeanette Castro: at SARCC, who donated the Spanish
Translation of our brochures so that our information can
reach as many members of our community as possible.
Pat & Rick Sullivan at Colortech: Who
have donated the printing of 40,000 English and 5,000
Spanish Brochures for the 10th Consecutive Year.
|
There are many, many more generous organizations and
people who help with our United Way and in the community each
and every day of the year. We thank all of you. Together, we
are joining hands to build a stronger community.

| COMPEER
Study |
|

Exciting news for the Compeer Program was
made public on Sept. 15, 2008. A Boston University-affiliated
study was published in the Community Mental Health Journal
showing that Compeer's programs have a profound effect on
the well-being of adults with serious mental illness.
Compeer, through the work of trained volunteers,
offer programs that complement therapy programs to combat
severe mental illness. A "compeer" is defined
as a person in a relationship with another peer or equal.
The study showed that adults who received
Compeer services in addition to psychiatric treatments showed
major improvement in subjective well-being and social support.
Compeer's full press release may be downloaded
here and the full study can be downloaded
in PDF format here.
