Invest Your Time in the Future of our Community:
Become a Reading Friend!
Did you know that children who can't read on grade level by the end of third grade are four times less likely to graduate from high school? Help us improve early literacy rates in children throughout Lebanon County as a volunteer in our fun, new program!
As a Reading Friend, volunteers get to work with children in their classrooms both one-on-one and in small groups, depending on the needs within the classroom and those of the individual students.
"The most satisfying community service task I have ever done," says one of our volunteers following his first experience where he read one-on-one with 12 first-graders.
IMPORTANT: Because this volunteer program is held in our public schools, volunteers are REQUIRED to complete the following before being able to participate:
- Child Abuse Clearances
- PA State Police Background Check
- TB Test
- FBI Fingerprints (not necessary if lived within PA for past 10 consecutive years)
- Mandated Reporter Training (for all Annville-Cleona School District volunteers)
